Porta

Porta is a stunning, hidden gem tucked away at the top of Northgate street. Porta is a great place to immerse in Iberian food and culture inspired by traditional Spanish tapas restaurants. Its atmosphere captures the hustle and bustle of a weekend evening and makes it the perfect place to relax and enjoy good food. There is a no booking policy which makes it a great option if you want to just walk in at any time.

Chez Jules

As you may be able to guess by the name, Chez Jules is one of Chester’s few French restaurants. Having been a popular choice in Chester for over 20 years now, Chez Jules has built quite the reputation for itself. Keeping true to the French style of changing the menu daily, you will be sure to have a freshly prepared meal created from daily sourced ingredients. Chez Jules is definitely one of our favourite picks for wholesome, French food.

Opera Grill

Opera Grill is one of Chester’s most well known restaurants. Housed in a stunning Grade II Listed building in the city centre and decorated beautifully inside, it is certainly one of the most glamorous venues in the city. The 400 seater restaurant grill and bar not only boasts an impressive menu, Opera Grill hosts live acts each week on a Friday and Sunday and has seasonal events which take place on the weekend. The gospel choir on a sunday are extremely popular amongst visitors and have found customers from further afield come to join especially.

Barlounge

Barlounge is possibly one of Chester’s favourite cocktail bars and restaurants. With over 22 years of amazing food and service, Barlounge has perfected their food menu to a T. From the almost tapas style selection of small bites,  to their stone baked pizzas and renowned Sunday Roast, you will not be disappointed. Combine that with the warm and friendly atmosphere and you are in for a great day or evening. A definite must-visit location in the summer when the sun is shining on the outdoor terrace!

Shrub

If you are looking for a delicious, plant based restaurant and bar in the Chester city centre, Shrub may be the place for you. You can sit and watch the world go by from the outdoor covered seating area on the Chester Rows. Shrub offers brunch during the day, and then a range of small and large plates in the evening.
